Cooking instructions

1. Pour 4.5 cups of water to a skillet. Add a pinch of salt and bring to a boil.
2. Add 1 cup of stone-ground grits when the water is boiling. Reduce the heat and cook the grits for 40 to 50 minutes while stirring frequently.
3. Depending on the type of grits, the cooking time can be longer.
4. Add more water if the grits have absorbed all the water before they're done. Be careful to stir well to avoid burning the grits.
5. Stir in a couple of tbs of butter and serve hot.
